Un simple emisor de FM con un micrófono y un pequeño receptor portátil basta para permitir que los niños sordos se pueden integrar con normalidad en los centros escolares. Se trata de un sencillo sistema de comunicación inalámbrico que está siendo implantado en colegios de la Comunidad gracias al Instituto Valenciano de la Sordera, con el fin de evitar los problemas de audición durante la etapa escolar, tras comprobar que el ruido, la distancia en relación al profesor y el efecto eco en el recinto escolar dificultan en gran medida la capacidad de escucha de los alumnos con audífonos o implantes cocleares.

Captar directamente el sonido

La comunicación inalámbrica evita así el aislamiento del niño sordo, ya que se les facilita un receptor que capta el sonido de forma directa independientemente del lugar del aula en el que se encuentre. Actualmente son cuarenta los centros de Valencia y Castellón que ya han implantado este sistema, aunque cada vez son más los colegios que lo demandan, según fuentes del centro.

Los tres primeros años de vida del niño son esenciales para detectar complicaciones auditivas, según los especialistas, ya que es en este periodo cuando se desarrolla las habilidades lingüísticas de la persona.

La dificultad para distinguir dónde se encuentra la fuente de un sonido permite detectar los problemas de audición en los bebés de cero a seis meses, mientras que a partir de esa edad se detecta con un retraso en el habla del pequeño, es decir, cuando un niño no es capaz de repetir las palabras básicas que debe aprender a esa edad. El Instituto Valenciano de la Sordera trabaja desde 1978 para promover la salud auditiva de los valencianos y cuenta con 51 centros propios y numerosos profesionales. Entre las iniciativas para favorecer la integración de los niños sordos llevadas a cabo desde estos centros, destacan los audífonos de colores, pegatinas y cuentos donde los protagonistas llevan implantes y que favorece normalizar esta discapacidad.
